chalk around the block!

Happy Halloween! This month we did a more gradual drawing and added something small every few days. I knew there would be a lot of Halloween themed items I could draw and I thought having an advent calendar type schedule would be the best way to show all of these drawings and have them present for the whole month. My favorite drawing is definitely the spiders, but I really like all of them and I think they came together well in the end. I used a lot of different colors and tried to make it a more sweet and happy Halloween theme than a spooky or scary one. This is by far one of my favorite drawing sets! With November coming, I'm not sure how much time I will be able to devote to these drawings because school and other things are really picking up, but I want to at least do something for Thanksgiving! On Halloween we also set out boxes of chalk 6 feet apart on the driveway for kids to come and take in light of COVID and to go with the chalk drawing I've been doing instead of coming to the door and getting candy like usual.

Spooky Sketches: Happy Halloween! I hope you all have taken a box of unicorn chalk! If you would like a chance to have the chalk art you drew with it featured on my website, please use this form to submit a picture: Spooky Sketches. Feel free to include your name and/or age if you want it to be posted with your drawing, but it's totally ok if you do not want to, I would still be happy to post your drawing. I'm excited to see what you all came up with!

And finally, I completed the equation and wrote "avocado toast". I think this week was pretty cute, even if it was more simple. Also it's the last day of September which means... SPOOKY SEASON!!!!!! I'm excited for this month and have already planned it all out. I'm gonna be doing something different; usually I do a big drawing on one day and leave it for the week or I do a small drawing every day to add to a theme and take it down at the end of the week. But for the month of October, I am leaving the same one up ALL MONTH. I will add Halloween doodles a few times every week and by the end of the month, the whole driveway will be filled with cute Halloween monsters and objects! I'm super excited to get started with October soon!!!

September28

september 28, 2020

Obviously I had to draw the avocado now to go with the avocado toast. I realized I switched the avocado and the toast and put the toast first when it would've made more sense to put the avocado first, but oh well, now people have to think more when they see it. I thought the avocado looked like a pear at first but with shading and drawing the pit, it definitely looks more like an avocado now (and a very yummy one at that).

September26

september 26, 2020

Since quarantine started I've been obsessed with avocado toast and eat it pretty much every single day, so I decided to draw it. Also we had a lot of green. The toast was pretty easy except we used the wrong color at first for the inside of the bread so some parts are more golden than others. I think it looks good though, especially the more yellowy/gold parts. I would eat it if it was edible.

September17 September17

september 17, 2020

To continue with this week's Harry Potter theme I drew the golden snitch and the Firebolt broomstick. Although this week's drawing was smaller than usual I still thought it was cute. I just wish I had more time to do a more complete set of drawings including the house crests and some of the characters (Side note: I am a Ravenclaw).

September14 September14

september 14, 2020

In honor of a conversation with some of my friends recently and my new urge to rewatch all the Harry Potter movies, I drew a Harry Potter theme this week. I drew some of the key symbols/ objects of the series incluing the Platform 9 and 3/4 plaque, and Harry's iconic scar and glasses. I plan to add one or two more objects later this week too.

September7

september 7, 2020

This week I drew a Hello Kitty holding an envelope with "Thank You USPS" written to show our thanks for more of our essential workers. This was similar to the thank you we gave to the Santa Clara Utilities and Maintenance people but for the postal service instead. I've been getting much busier with school and college apps so I am just trying to get a drawing out once every two weeks if possible.

August29 August29pt2

august 29, 2020

It was Sam's birthday today so I woke up at 7 to draw the birthday cake and write Happy Birthday Sam" before she woke up. She was definitely surprised when she saw it and I'm happy she liked it. The drawing took less time than I initially thought it would, but still a lot of time. I really liked this week's drawing and I think the bright colors turned out super cute.

august 21, 2020

Due to the current wildfires in the Bay Area, the air quality this week has been extremely unhealthy and unsafe for people to be outside. Thus, I have been unable to complete a whole theme this week and will continue my progress as soon as the air quality is healthy enough. In other news, I submitted last week's chalk drawing (Back to School) to the local Santa Clara Chalk Ark Contest. I've never had the intention of being competitive with my chalk drawings, but I thought it would be fun to enter the contest, but I am definitely not expecting anything out of it.

august 14, 2020

School is starting soon (next week for me!) so we decided to do a back to school theme. There is so much craziness surrounding back to school and while I'm disappointed I won't be starting my senior year as I had imagined, I am happy knowing that I will be safe and will be keeping my community safe due to at-home learning. This week was pretty fun too. We thankfully finished it in just one night but it took us nearly 3 hours! Weather in California has been kinda whack recently (there was thunder and lightning the morning I'm writing this) so I'm happy it was all done quickly. I think the cloud looks like a good cloud shape and all the drawings are super cute. We had the idea of making the cloud look more like a chalkboard so we smeared the different colors with our hands. Major shoutout to Sam for doing all the writing and filling in of the cloud. It looks really good. This is probably one of my favorite drawings so far. As I said, my school starts next week and it's senior year for me so I have a lot of hard classes and other things going on. I really want to do the best I can with school, but I will still try to do chalk if I can. If not, I will try to do something maybe each weekend and leave it up for the whole week or come back for some holidays. I cannot guarantee the drawings will be as consistent as they have been, but thank you all so much for the support and kind words you have given me throughout the four months of this project.

August5pt2 August5

august 7, 2020

This week was a shorter theme but it still looks really good I think. Whenever I draw chalk outside and the Santa Clara Utilities and Maintenance people come by they always appreciate the drawings and I wanted to extend a thank you to some essential workers that may not be appreciated as frequently as they should be. I drew the Santa Clara Utilities and Maintenance truck, the three bins (compost, recycling, garbage), and Sam wrote the words "thank you" in her puffy bubble letters. The truck was easier to draw than I expected and I think it looks pretty accurate. We worked hard on Monday and Tuesday to finish the week up by Wednesday so they could hopefully see it when they came by. I will go back to checking theme requests for next week, I just wanted to do this idea this week.

July31pt2 July31

july 31, 2020

Sam wrote the title of this week's theme today and we added some little decorations around the whole drawing to give it some more umph. The sprinkles are super cute and bright and I think they really bring the four ice creams together well. The little squiggles are super cute too and I like the fun they add to the theme. This week started out rough, but I think these final details made it so colorful and I really liked this week!

July30

july 30, 2020

Today's drawing was surprisingly the easiest and most fun of the week. I really liked doing just the classic ice cream cone and scoops with classic ice cream flavors. The color we had for mint was so pretty I will defitely use it more in the future once the new chalk we ordered comes! Drawing the bottom of each scoop (the floofy cloud part) was really fun! Joke: Why did the ice cream truck break down? Because of the ROCKY ROAD!

July29

july 29, 2020

The strawberry milkshake was a last minute decision but I really like how it turned out. I liked drawing the whipped cream on the top haha. I was craving a vanilla milkshake after drawing this! Joke: How to split a milkshake. Mine. Also mine.

July28

july 28, 2020

Today's drawing was easier than yesterday's by far. I drew a creamsicle (even though I've never actually had one). I liked drawing the little bite out of the popsicle and I think this one was really ˜˜cool˜˜. Pun: Nothing is imPOPSICLE.

July27

july 27, 2020

This week's theme is ice cream! I decided to start the week with soft serve (and I was definitely craving some by the time I finished drawing). It was harder than I thought to do the chocolate/vanilla swirl than I thought but it's soft serve. It has to be the swirl. Once I figured it out I really liked it and I think the ice cream + cone turned out really sweetly (haha). Joke: Why is ice cream so bad at tennis? Because is has a soft serve.

July24 July24pt2

july 24, 2020

Today's drawing was much harder. At least coming up with it was. Almost all PBS kids TV shows have red somewhere in the title or the characters and I don't have any red chalk left. Arthur does have red in the title so we used a red-orange for it but he doesn't have any red physically on him so hopefully this one works well. I think it turned out pretty good.

July23

july 23, 2020

Today's drawing was much harder. At least coming up with it was. Almost all PBS kids TV shows have red somewhere in the title or the characters and I don't have any red chalk left. Arthur does have red in the title so we used a red-orange for it but he doesn't have any red physically on him so hopefully this one works well. I think it turned out pretty good.

July22

july 22, 2020

Next up is Curious George. This one went a lot better and a lot faster than the other days. I think we also picked a good color for him that's pretty accurate. So far, I think this one looks the most similar to the actual show especially because of how close the title is to the real one.

July21

july 21, 2020

Today I went with a show from when I was a kid, as opposed to current kid's shows. My favorite: Phineas and Ferb. I wanted to write the whole theme song behind the drawing but I figured that would be too difficult (but I do still somehow know the whole thing...).

July20

july 20, 2020

I got this theme from the requests through the QR code! I'm so happy it's working and that more people are submitting themes. I plan on keeping the code up as long as I can so people can constantly give new ideas as they come. Anyways, this week's theme is children's TV shows. I drew Peppa Pig today. She looks like a whistle haha.

July19

july 19, 2020

I put a QR code out in the front yard by the drawings so hopefully people will be able to access the website easier and can give more input. I still need to figure out how to get the images to load faster because they currently take a few minutes so I'm going to work on that this week.

July18 July18pt2

july 18, 2020

Today Sam added the title, Out of this World!, and I drew pluto (crying, of course, because it's no longer a planet) and a little rocket ship. I really like how this week came out and the simplicity of it.

July17 July17pt2

july 17, 2020

Last two planets today (Uranus and Neptune)!!! Uranus is 2 billion miles away while Neptune is 3 billion miles away. I really like this week so far, now I just need to add a small title (hopefully it will fit) and maybe some other details.

July16 July16pt2

july 16, 2020

Today I drew the next two planets: Jupiter and Saturn. Jupiter is 480 million miles away while Saturn is 929 million miles away. It was kinda hard to make sure I as scaling these planets correctly because Jupiter and Saturn are both so much larger than all the rest of the planets, but I think it's definitely noticeable that these two are significantly larger than the rest.

July15 July15pt2

july 15, 2020

Now the third and fourth planets: Earth and Mars. I did the same line/distance thing I did yesterday and Earth is 94 million miles away while Mars is 129 million miles away. So far this week has been pretty easy because the shapes are all just simple circles but after how crazy last week's theme was, I don't mind the simple at all.

July14 July14pt2

july 14, 2020

Today I drew first two planets: Mercury and Venus. I also drew a line to write the distance between these planets and the Sun (trying to be a little educational haha). Mercury is 36 million miles away and Venus is 68 million miles away. I think this week is looking very nice so far.

July13

july 13, 2020

This week's theme I got from the theme request submissions and it is... Solar System! I think this week is gonna be really cute and after 2 weeks of one big drawing, it's nice to be doing a week of clear separate pieces. Today I started with just the Sun, the center of the solar system, and included the temperature of the surface of the sun (5505˚C). I have a feeling I'm gonna get good at drawing circles this week haha.

July10 July10pt2

july 10, 2020

Sam wrote the title today and we are all done with this week! The title is "Fishy Fishy swim swim" which is more of an inside joke between us, but it's still cute and fun for the whole neighborhood. I also looked through the theme submissions and I'm excited to use them in the upcoming weeks. I still want to get more and I don't want to write it every week so I'm going to try to get a QR code for this website, print it out, and put it outide somewhere so it's more easily accessible!

July9pt1 July9pt2

july 9, 2020

I added the final animals today (I think). Just a jellyfish and a whale. The submarine has already faded so much since yesterday though. Ahhh! That always happens with the yellow chalk so I might re color it tomorrow. Also something very nice happened today. I opened the front door and someone left a card saying thank you and how much they loved the drawings and flowers which we put in a vase in the house. I love getting little things like this, it's so sweet and wholesome :)

July8

july 4, 2020

I definitely thought today's drawing was going to take longer given how big it is but it was surprisingly fast. I drew a giant yellow submarine today! I am worried though that there won't be enough room for other sea creatures now but I think I can draw some around it and maybe even above?

July7

july 7, 2020

Today was pretty quick and easy; I just drew a few small fish and a fun crab! I really like the crab (probably my favorite part of the whole thing). So far this week is coming together nicely and some people have submitted theme requests!!! I'm excited to use some in future weeks!

July6

july 6, 2020

This week we are doing an underwater theme. I drew the ocean floor today with sand, seaweed, some rocks, starfish, an octopus, and my favorite part, a message in a bottle. I think this week will be pretty cute and there's a lot of sea creatures I still want to add!!! I also displayed my website adress on the sidewalk below the drawing so hopefully people will fill out the theme request page!!

July4

july 4, 2020

We finished this week's theme today!!! Sam added a quote: "Be a unicorn in a field of horses." Mom and Sam both really liked this week's theme and I'm excited for what I have planned for next week! I also just finished up the theme request page today so hopefully I can distribute the URL soon to get some requests! Go check it out and leave as many ideas as you have!!!

July3 July3pt2

july 3, 2020

I added some more little doodles today like the diamond and the green star. Sam added more of the little white stars and sparkles on the left side of the unicorn.

July2 July2pt2

july 2, 2020

Since we completed most of this week's theme yesterday, I'm probably just going to be adding smaller details/ drawings to enhance the unicorn. I did the yellow star and the rainbow cloud and today Sam just colored over some of the white and yellow that was fading. She also added the little white stars and sparkles to this side and the other side.

July1

july 1, 2020

This week we decided to do one big drawing rather than a theme like we usually do. Sam picked this week's theme as well. This drawing took almost 2 hours to draw and color, definitely the longest one in one day so far. It's not exactly like the reference picture but it's pretty close and I think you can definitely tell it's a unicorn so yay! I really liked drawing and coloring the hair because there were so many different colors to use haha!

June30

june 30, 2020

Here's the final week drawing.

june29pt2 June29

june 29, 2020

Sam wrote the title today and I think its super cute! It says "fruitastic" (like fantastic but make it fruit). She also drew the blueberries and I really like them too. Dad joke: What do you call a sad strawberry? Answer: A blueberry.

june28

june 28, 2020

Today we did a pineapple. We also ran out of this shade of yellow/gold. Dad joke: What do you get when you combine a christmas tree with an iPad? Answer: A pine-apple (This reminded me of the pen-pineapple-apple-pen video from a few years ago haha).

june27

june 27, 2020

6th fruit: watermelon. We have no red left so it was kinda hard to find a good shade of pink to use for the watermelon but I think it turned out ok. Dad joke: What did the watermelon say to the cantoloupe? Answer: You're one in a melon.

june26

june 26, 2020

I really liked today's fruit. We drew a bunch of grapes with different faces on different grapes. We ran out of this purple but we still have a lot left. Dad joke: Why are grapes never lonely? Answer: They come in bunches.

june25

june 25, 2020

Today's fruit is cherries. Unfortunately, the sprinklers made part of the stem wash away but luckily the cherries are still intact. Dad joke: What did the nervous cherry say? Answer: I have a pit in my stomach.

june24

june 24, 2020

Next fruit: orange. We initially wanted to do a mango but we didn't have the right shade of yellow. Dad joke: Why did the orange go to the doctor? Answer: It wasn't peeling well.

june23

june 23, 2020

Today we did a pear. We wanted to give it a huge surprised face but the smile worked better. You can't really see it in the picture but I promise, it's there. Dad joke: Where do fruits go on vacation? Answer: Pear-is

june22

june 22, 2020

Sam picked this weeks theme: fruit! We have a lot of random bright colors left so we wanted to use as many as we could and fruit has a lot of bright colors. The first one we did was a banana. Dad Joke: Where do bananas go to learn? Answer: Sundae school.

june19pt1

june 19, 2020

Yes, it has been a week. BUT that is just because this week's project was a bit… bigger. I needed multiple days to complete the whole thing but I did start working on it on Monday, so no, I'm not slacking. I got this idea off something i saw on the internet and I think it was a really unique idea. They were able to use one sidewalk square per space but I didn't want mine to fade due to walking and sprinklers plus I wanted to fit the whole thing, not just one side. Anyways, the theme I decided for this week is….. MONOPOLY! I drew the whole game board with all the small details of the little pictures in each square and Sam played a huge part this week by writing all the names of the places and the cost as seen on the actual game. I really liked how this one turned out! To finish off the Game Night theme, I wrote the names of some other common games above the Monopoly game board like Clue, Life, Sorry, and Twister. I really like how Twister came out haha!

june12

june 12, 2020

Here's the final product!

june11

june 11, 2020

Last team of the week! The Oakland A's. I really need dark colored chalk because I didn't have the right shade of green so the logo was a bit off. I ended up really liking this theme and I'd have to say my favorites are the San Jose Sharks and the San Francisco 49ers drawings.

june10

june 10, 2020

Today I did the San Francisco Giants. I definitely underestimated this one in how hard the lettering would be to accurately recreate but I think I did an ok job.

june9

june 9, 2020

The third team I drew today is the San Francisco 49ers. I was surprised by how accurately I drew the letters but this was definitely easier than yesterday's shark.

june8

june 8, 2020

Wow! Today's team was pretty difficult. I drew the San Jose Sharks logo today and that shark was hard. I really like how this one turned out though especially the hockey stick!

june7

june 7, 2020

As requested by one of my neighbors, this week's theme is Bay Area Sports teams. I started off with the Warriors. This theme is definitely different from one's I've done in the past but hopefully more of my neighbors enjoy this theme!

june 5, 2020

No new chalk today, but I have to update you on something. This absolutely made my day and made me feel so happy. A young girl in the neighborhood left a letter for me in the mail about how much she loved the chalk and it made me so happy to see I'm actually able to bring joy to so many people. I do get a lot of compliments on the drawings when I see people while I'm drawing but it was extra special to get a handwritten and illustrated card.

june4

june 4, 2020

Here's a final picture before I wash it down. I'm gonna keep this week's up a little bit longer just because there were so many characters. Also today is the last day of school and senior graduation :). I'm making a poster for one of my senior friends and I'll drop it off at her house later!

june3

june 3, 2020

Last day of this theme!!! The final character I drew was Peppermint Patty's best friend, Marci. I've noticed when I've been taking the pictures I accidentally made them look a little pregnant haha. This week was super fun though and is probably my favorite week so far behind Earth Day week!

june2

june 2, 2020

Almost done with this week! Today I drew Schroder, the pianist. It was more difficult than expected to draw him hunched over his piano but I think it turned out ok. His neck is a little thin and his hair looks more white in the picture but I use yellow to color it so I'm not sure why that happened...

june1pt1 june1pt2

june 1, 2020

Wow. I can't believe it's already June. It's been almost 3 months of quarantine. That's crazy. School's almost out too. I would normally be so busy studying for finals this week. It's so odd that I won't get the typical "end of the year" experience, but I'm just grateful that I can do so much school work from home and that I'm able to entertain myself from home. Anyways, today I was more ambitious and I did Peppermint Patty, the little christmas tree, and Pigpen (mom's favorite).

may31

may 31, 2020

Sam wrote "PEANUTS" today in the middle of the characters and I really like how the whole theme is coming together!

may30

may 30, 2020

Today I drew Sally. She's been my favorite to draw so far hehe. I really liked doing the top of her hair with all the random strokes. I've also been listening to a podcast recently while I work and one that I really enjoy is "We Bought a House" with Claudia Sulewski and Finneas.

may29

may 29, 2020

Next up is Lucy. I think she is the most accurate character so far, aside from Snoopy. She did get a little smudged though on her face but it's still pretty accurate. I still haven't quite gotten the facial features quite right but if you can tell who it is then that's all that matters.

may28

may 28, 2020

Today was Charlie Brown's best friend, Linus. It was fun drawing his blanket but I definitely struggled with his head and hair; they're a bit misshapen but at least he's still somewhat recognizable (?).

may27

may 27, 2020

Today I drew the second most iconic character, Charlie Brown himself. He was surprisingly quick to draw but it was hard to get his smile just right.

may26

may 26, 2020

I'm really excited for this week's theme. I like doing a mix of more random ones that there isn't one exact target image of how something is supposed to look because I get more freedom but I also really like the ones that are actual recognizable characters even though they are more difficult. This week is more like the latter and is Charlie Brown Peanuts! To start I did my favorite character, Snoopy (and Woodstock). I forgot his tail at first and didn't notice for about an hour so then I went and drew it on. Oops!

may23

may 23, 2020

Today was the last day of this theme and I drew rainbow peppermints on the sidewalk. There wasn't any space left on the driveway plus this way people could jump from one to the other and I think it looks really nice on the sidewalk. Here's a picture of the whole thing including some words and stars Sam added to bring it all together :)

may 22, 2020

I forgot to take a picture of what I did today but I have a picture of the whole week theme that I took so you can see it there. It was a super bright and fun lollipop and it was a lot of fun to draw all the swirls and use more colors!

may21

may 21, 2020

Today was pretty easy; I just did two candy wrapper thingies and they were pretty small. I really like this week so far because it is so colorful and random haha!

may20

may 20, 2020

The new theme for this week is candy!!! This gumball machine took way longer than expected especially because we were very low on red chalk so it was hard to get an even spread. The gumballs were really fun though because there were just so many fun different colors we could use this week!

may16

may 16, 2020

So the chalk washed away so I couldn’t add anything more but here’s a final picture I took last night:

may15

may 15, 2020

Today I drew our last princess, Mulan. It’s supposed to rain so I think the drawings will wash away and I probably won’t draw for a bit if it’s supposed to continue raining :(.

may14

may 14, 2020

So I took a bit of a break from chalk these past few days because a) I’m waiting for more black and white chalk to come so I can do more princesses and b) I have AP testing this week so I’ve been studying a lot and didn’t have time for it. But I drew the next princess (Snow White) after my AP test.

may9

may 10, 2020

Today is Mother’s Day! So Sam and I woke up early to cut flowers and write mom (and all the other moms) a “Happy Mother’s Day!”

may9

may 9, 2020

Today I drew Rapunzel and her chameleon (I don’t remember it’s name oops)! She might be my favorite drawing so far. It was super fun and I think she looks pretty close to the Disney version!

may8

may 8, 2020

Today I drew Anna, Elsa, and Olaf from Frozen! It’s so fun to see all the families with little kids come by and for them to be so happy and say “It’s Olaf!” Sorry this picture is weird, I took it the next day after we did our next princess. Also today we ran out of black and white after finishing Olaf so that’s why the eyes are a bit off for a few of the princesses.

may7

may 7, 2020

New theme today! I washed off the Winnie the Pooh theme yesterday and started the next one today: Disney Princesses! For the first day we did the most recognizable princess, Cinderella!

may4

may 4, 2020

Today we put the rocks outside after letting them dry overnight and wrote the note for people to take them and make a pet rock.

may 2, 2020

Today I wrote a riddle. It was difficult to find a good Winnie the Pooh riddle but I think I found one that was ok. It says “How does Winnie the Pooh open his honey pot?” “With his BEAR hands.” Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture so I don’t have a one of today’s chalk :(.

may1

may 1, 2020

Today I felt like drawing again instead of a game or a quote or a riddle or something so I drew Eeyore. Sorry the picture is a little wonky; I forgot a picture of this day and the next day so this is from a bigger picture of this half of the driveway.

april30

april 30, 2020

Today we found a cute quote from Winnie the Pooh and it says “Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your hearts.” I think it’s a nice quote and is just a little reminder to enjoy the little things and be grateful for the things you have :).

april29

april 29, 2020

New theme today!!! I picked Winnie the Pooh for this week’s theme. Today I drew Piglet and Winnie the Pooh and I think it’s pretty cute haha. But I won’t be drawing an obstacle course or anything with this theme because it came off last week.

april27

april 27, 2020

Today was the end of the Earth Day theme. I washed it off today and will start with a new theme tomorrow. Not much to update on but people keep complimenting us so that is very nice haha. Here’s a picture of the whole thing before I washed it off the next day.

april26

april 26, 2020

Today's idea was very last minute because I was torn between a picture or words. There wasn't much space left so I needed something short and relatively small. So I drew this rainbow and it says "radiate positivity" underneath it. After I finished and went inside I saw someone taking a picture of the driveway with everything! Yay! I'm not sure if I'm going to add anything tomorrow just because there isn't a lot of space left so this might be the end of this them but maybe I will end up adding something.

april25

april 25, 2020

Today was a riddle day. I found one about trees to tie into the nature theme. Here's the riddle: Q: What kind of tree can you carry in your hand? A: A PALM tree. And I drew a palm tree next to it of course. We're already running low on blue and green chalk and we've only had the new chalk for a week! We might have to order more soon, but we will try to have different focus colors for the next theme. Sam is also done with school soon so she will be able to teach me how to code a website. And after AP testing we're gonna start making care packages to send to local hospitals. As of now, the care packages will consist of a homemade mask and an encouraging note of gratitude.

Continuing with the Earth theme, I found a poem online about the Earth. In case you can't read it from the picture, it says "The earth is here for all to see, a happy place for you and me. It's up to us to protect and care for this beautiful planet we all share." I really like this poem especially due to climate change and global warming. It is important that people don't litter and use effective methods for getting power and cleaning up after themselves. COVID-19 is horrible and has had devastating consequences around the world, but one positive is the restoration lack of human contact is doing to the environment: animals are coming back to their natural habitats, the air is cleaner, carbon emissions are decreasing, and much more. It's alarming and a bit disappointing that it took a global pandemic and almost complete elimination of human interaction with animal habitats to begin restoring the environment but I'm thankful it is happening.

Today was the second day of this theme and I made a sidewalk obstacle course. Unfortunately, the sprinklers in the lawn washed away a lot of it so there's only the beginning part where the frog and lilypads are :(. Luckily, that's the cutest part though! I didn't get a picture of the whole thing when we did it but I'll insert one of the frog part and what else is left.

Today is Earth Day! So of course that was the theme! Sadly, I had to wash off all the chalk from last week. I’m very pleased with how the first week of drawing has gone though. I’ve received A LOT of positive feedback from people walking by in the neighborhood and I’m very happy that I decided to do this just to make a positive impact in a discouraging and scary time. I want to definitely keep this up all of quarantine if I can. As mentioned before, today I drew an Earth for Earth Day! I just found a cartoon Earth online and I think it’s super cute. I’m very happy with how it turned out and I’m honestly surprised it looked that good haha!

I think today has to be the last of this set :(. There’s only one square left on the driveway that people can probably actually see. Sam helped me with the word search we decided to make and it’s aquatic themed hehe. I’m kinda worried that it’ll be too far away and the writing will be too small so people won’t be able to see it but they could walk onto the driveway a bit I think. OH AND THE NEW CHALK CAME TODAY!!! YAY!!! It’s harder to remove though so I have to be careful with it oops. Also side note, I had my ASB interview today and that was very exciting and stressful but I really hope Megana and I both get it so we can be commissioners together. Fingers crossed!

Today I decided to go with a riddle. The driveway and sidewalk is already super crowded but I think I’ll try to fit a few more things in this set before starting fresh. I want to continue with my aquatic theme so I found a cheesy riddle that I like a lot haha. Dad also said he saw more people walking by and complimented the drawings and stuff yay!

Today was Jack and Jane (our neighbors) 50th wedding anniversary so I got up early to draw something for them so they could see it when they got up. Definitely did not like getting up at 7:30 but I went back to sleep so it’s ok haha. Plus it was nice to do something nice. I also took pictures of what the little girl did that I included below! Stay tuned tomorrow!

Here's what a little girl added to the beginning of our obstacle course!

Today was very wholesome. I wasn’t planning on adding anything because there is hardly any space left in the driveway/ sidewalk but I decided to add a short inspirational quote. But the wholesome part came when I went outside: there was a little girl with her mom adding to the beginning of our obstacle course. She added a warm up. I will take a picture of it once they finish but it was very cute and made me happy that someone was positively affected by what I was doing. Dad also said he saw several people do the obstacle course today when he was mowing the lawn and they said nice things about it to him. On a different note, I learned how to crochet today. Hopefully I can make some cute animals to donate either now or after quarantine.

YAYAYYY! Today’s addition was super fun and actually a lot less time consuming than the drawing. It was a chalk obstacle course on the sidewalk in front of the house. It’s only been up for a little bit and I’ve already seen a few people do it and it was very fulfilling to brighten up their day even if it was only for a few seconds. Dad said he saw 3 groups of people come by and do it and talked to him about it for a bit and that made me happy. To make the obstacle course I looked on google and tik tok and then I drew out the plan on paper and took it outside to draw. Mom ordered some more chalk because we’ve already gone through a few and we’re just starting!

First drawing done today! I decided to go with a drawing the first day so I can add related themed items to the driveway/ sidewalk. I drew Dory with her phrase “Just keep swimming!” I think kids will like it because it’s a happy, colorful, disney character and it will bring a little bit of positivity to whoever walks by it. I’ve seen one person walk by it and look at it and it was very nice to put a smile on somebody else’s face. I want to capture pictures of people walking by so I will go sit in the living room so I can hopefully catch some people. I also made a google slides with different themes and drawings for next time. The drawing took about an hour so I don’t want to erase and redraw something everyday. I think the plan is to leave the drawing as long as I can until it fades or to leave it for about 5 days and restart the theme. I might add another character tomorrow or maybe a quote or joke or something, I’m not sure yet. Also the chalk pack I ordered did not have black chalk so I’m looking to order some on Amazon.

The chalk came today!!! Sam and I were gonna go outside to do the first drawing/ writing today but it was too dark (it’s 7:53 PM) right now so we are going to do it tomorrow morning. I’m sad that I couldn’t start today, but it gives me another night to brainstorm even more so I will take advantage of that time. I’m also still waiting for Sam to teach me how to code the website. She has a project for CS due in a few days so she will have more time to help me after that. I’m very excited for that! The plan for tomorrow as of right now is to make an obstacle course type thing and write something but that plan could change if I find something else I’d rather do. I’m going to make a doc tonight of inspirational/ motivational quotes in these unpredictable times. Hopefully I will remember to record us drawing and take a picture of the final product tomorrow! I’ll keep you posted.

So today is the first day of these vlogs/ blogs. It’s been one month of quarantine and it seems like things aren’t improving very quickly, so I want to start doing things for my community however I can. I know it’s unsafe to my family and everyone else to be going out more than necessary, so although I’d love to do things like pick up food from the grocery store to deliver to my neighbors, I can’t. So I’ve decided to sew masks with as much fabric as I have left and donate them to local hospitals and I’m going to write in chalk outside my house on the sidewalk for little kids walking around with their families. I’m going to make a brainstorm sheet with more ideas, but generally I want to make a hopscotch/ obstacle course type thing, write a short story that they can read online too, and write jokes or riddles. I might end up making the masks and putting them outside my house in a basket for people to take if they need, but I’m not completely sure yet. Sam is hopefully going to help me code a website to track all of this but I also want to keep thinking of ideas to help my community however I can.
